SUPPORT YOUR IN HOUSE TEAM WITH A FREELANCE SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER
When it was time for Anglesey Sea Zoo to repatriate Rhossi, their Kemp’s ridley sea turtle, back to the Gulf of Mexico, they knew the press coverage would put extra pressure on their already busy in-house team, so they reached out to me to take care of the ongoing coverage so their team wouldn’t have to.
A press release was issued before Rhossi was transported to Heathrow for his flight to Texas, so the story was mostly told by the press in the first instance - lots of reposting and loving the commentary and being guided by their P.R. liaison. Following this, the team in the U.S. provided photos and descriptions of what they were doing regarding location and partner involvement and I would optimise these for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and BlueSky to make sure that everyone heard about this incredible story.
As most of the action was taking place across the Atlantic, the time zone difference was going to be apparent, so the process with the U.S. based team was that I would provide copy suggestions in my afternoon, and they would reply with edits that I could receive in my morning and post at lunchtime. Photos and videos were provided via WeTransfer during the same timeframe.
As a Welsh charity, Anglesey Sea Zoo uses Welsh translations in all of their posts. As a non Welsh speaker, I liaised with their in-house team to make sure the translations were accurate as well as adapting to their brand voice, so as to to confuse their existing followers.
If you have something happening that is going to add more social media workload to you and your team, reach out to me at jo.barber@seeing-social.co.uk to see how I can support you.
